You don’t have to carry every thought
Have you ever noticed that after you start driving a different car, you begin seeing that same model everywhere?
Maybe you rented it, test drove it, or recently bought one. Suddenly, it feels like everyone on the road is driving that exact car.
But the reality is, nothing has changed.
You’ve simply become more aware.
When something enters our awareness, our minds begin to notice it more often. We think about it, look for it, and sometimes give it more attention than it truly needs.
This is how our minds work—not just with cars, but with thoughts, worries, and experiences.
We’ve all heard phrases like “ignorance is bliss” or “burying your head in the sand.” These ideas often suggest that not paying attention means avoiding reality. But that isn’t always true.
Sometimes, people are aware of difficult things and simply choose when and how to engage with them.
And that is a form of self-protection.
You have more influence than you think over what you allow into your mind.
What you read, what you watch, what you revisit, and what you focus on all shape your internal world. The more attention you give something, the more present it becomes in your life.
I value learning and growth, and I’m always open to new knowledge. But I’ve also learned that not every thought deserves my attention.
Protecting your mind is not about avoiding reality—it’s about being intentional with your focus.
It’s about choosing what supports your well-being and gently letting go of what doesn’t.
Remind yourself:
You are safe.
Your needs are being met.
You are supported.
You don’t have to carry every thought that passes through your mind.
You get to choose what stays.
