Become your own algorithm
# Become Your Own Algorithm
When I tell people my tagline is “Become your own algorithm,” they usually smile and say they like it. Most people recognize the word algorithm, but they don’t always ask what I mean by it. Maybe they understand the idea, or maybe they are curious but haven’t taken the time to explore the deeper meaning behind it.
An algorithm is a system that uses information to determine what content is shown to you. The advertisements, videos, and posts that appear in your online feeds are not random. They are influenced by what you search for, what you click on, how long you spend viewing something, and what captures your attention.
For example, if you search for topics like healing from past experiences, recovering from unhealthy relationships, or navigating challenging times, you will likely begin seeing more content related to those subjects. Your online experience starts reflecting the things you engage with. Even small choices—such as selecting “not interested” on content that no longer serves you—can begin to reshape what appears in your feed.
But what if we applied this same idea to our own minds?
The thoughts we repeatedly focus on become the information our brain continues to bring forward. What we choose to dwell on, the stories we repeat, and the moments we give our attention to all influence how we experience our lives.
Just like we can intentionally redesign our online feeds, we can intentionally redesign our inner world.
Becoming your own algorithm means becoming aware of what you are allowing to shape your thoughts, your beliefs, and your choices. It means choosing to give more attention to the experiences, relationships, and possibilities that bring you joy, peace, and fulfillment.
This does not mean ignoring challenges or pretending difficult moments do not exist. It means recognizing that your past does not have to control the direction of your future.
When you begin focusing on the moments that inspire you, the strengths you have developed, and the life you want to create, you start training your mind to look for opportunities instead of limitations.
You have the ability to influence the story you tell yourself.
You have the ability to choose what deserves your attention.
You have the ability to become your own algorithm.
